Working within a compact trailer layout, he built a major electrical system designed to support larger loads, added features, and a more capable off-grid camping experience.
Why I Chose This Camper as the Base for My Build
I’ve spent the last year modifying and upgrading the electrical system in my 2023 IBEX 20BHS. I always knew this was the model and floorplan I wanted to upgrade to from our pop-up camper for three main reasons. First, it was the smallest camper I could find that had bunk beds without a Murphy bed. Second, it came with the Beast Mode independent suspension option, and I knew I wanted to take this thing off-roading. Third, and probably most important, it had a large amount of storage underneath the queen mattress, and that is exactly where I planned on putting all of my batteries and most of my components.
Why LiTime Became My Battery Choice
The reasons I chose LiTime for my battery bank came down to cost, warranty, and performance. LiTime uses EV-grade lithium iron phosphate cells, which means 4,000-plus cycles at 100% depth of discharge, and that is hard to ignore. On top of that, they come with a 5-year warranty.
Another major factor was that these particular batteries gave me the largest amp-hour capacity I could find in the smallest footprint that would fit underneath my bed. I had to completely rebuild the under-bed storage structure to hold all of my components properly, but it was worth it because I needed a strong and stable place for the battery bank.
Why the BMS Was So Important for My System
The last major thing that went into my decision was the BMS—the battery management system. I knew I wanted to run larger loads off the batteries, including the AC and microwave, and I’m able to do that because each of my batteries has a 200A BMS. I’ve got four of them in this camper.
What gave me even more confidence was the real-world experience in my own family. My in-laws have two 24V LiTime lithium batteries, my parents have three 12V versions, and I now have four myself. Across all of those batteries, we haven’t had any problems. That is a big reason why I recommend LiTime for a camper build like this.
Building a System Around Real Camping Use
The system is centered around the under-bed electrical bay, where the batteries connect through fused individual wiring, cutoff switches, and the rest of the Victron components. From there, the system steps down the 24V house bank to the camper’s 12V DC side and distributes power throughout the rig.
I also built out a number of upgraded electrical additions that did not come with the camper, including an auxiliary 12V panel, charging stations, outside Anderson connections, upgraded USB and USBC ports, motion lights, LED strip lighting, drawer outlets, and multiple hardwired 12V fans. For me, that is the real value of a power system like this. It is not just about adding batteries. It is about making the whole camper more functional and more livable.
LiTime Supports the Kind of Camping I Want to Do
Recently, I also upgraded to the new Furion Chill Cube AC unit, which is more efficient, quieter, and better suited to pairing with a lithium system. Next, I’m taking the camper boondocking in Texas for three days and two nights in 90-plus-degree heat to test how long these LiTime lithium iron phosphate batteries can run the AC. I’m going out on a limb here, but I think the current battery bank and solar setup are going to get us through the weekend.
That is how I think about LiTime in this build. It is not just a battery choice. It is the foundation that makes the rest of the system possible. And when your power system is solid, the whole camping experience opens up in a different way—more comfort, more flexibility, and more freedom to use the camper the way you actually want to.
