Powering Our Off-Grid Dream: Why We Chose LiTime 12V 200Ah Batteries for Our Campervan

Meet Mel and Jay, the creators behind the YouTube channel Home A Roam. As British Columbia-based content creators and remote workers, we spend nearly half the year on the road, sharing our adventures and inspiring others to live their dream life.

While the freedom of nomadic life is incredible, it hinges on a critical component: a robust and reliable electrical system. After four years of adventures in a travel trailer, we decided it was time to build our dream rig—a fully self-sufficient campervan that would allow us to explore further and work from anywhere, completely off-grid. A key part of this vision was creating a fully electric power supply, moving away from propane for all our cooking, heating, and cooling needs.

The Challenge: Outgrowing Our First Electrical System

Our previous travel trailer featured a system Jay designed himself, with 400W of solar and 200Ah of lithium batteries from a different brand. In the beginning, this setup was adequate. However, as our power needs grew—powering camera gear for our YouTube channel, a laptop for Jay's software engineering work, and equipment for Mel's remote yoga instruction—our system was pushed to its limits.

For our new build, a 2025 RAM Promaster, we knew we had to go big. Our goal was ambitious: fit 880W of solar panels and a massive 800Ah of lithium battery power into a 20-foot van.

Why We Chose LiTime: The Perfect Balance of Power, Weight, and Price

While we considered using the same battery brand from our first build, we weren't fully satisfied with their options. Our research led us to LiTime Power, and we were immediately impressed.

Real-World Performance: Putting LiTime Batteries to the Test

We've been living with our new system for three months, and the results are outstanding. Our four LiTime 12V 200Ah batteries effortlessly power our entire life on the road, including:

  • Laptops for full-time remote work
  • Kitchen appliances and an induction cooktop
  • A 12V fridge/freezer
  • An electric hot water heater
  • All of our lighting
  • Starlink satellite internet
  • A 12V air conditioner

We were truly blown away on a recent hot summer day. We ran our 12V air conditioner and Starlink internet all day long and into the evening, and a quick check of our system showed we had used less than a quarter of our total battery capacity. That level of performance gave us complete peace of mind. We were so impressed and happy with our purchase.
